As April approaches, the buzz around April 20th, or 420, is felt by cannabis lovers everywhere. But how did this date become so important? In this article, we’ll explore the origins of 420 and why it’s such a big deal in the world of cannabis. Let’s dive in and uncover the story behind 420!

420 originated from California

The roots of 420 can be traced back to a group of high school students in California during the early 1970s. Dubbed the “Waldos,” these students began convening at 4:20 PM to embark on a quest for a rumored hidden cannabis crop. Though their mission proved fruitless, the tradition of meeting at 4:20 PM persisted as a code for indulging in cannabis among friends.

420 in our day & age

Fast forward to the present, and 420 has transcended its origins to become a globally recognized day of celebration within cannabis culture. On April 20th annually, ents (short for enthusiasts) come together to share a collective moment of puff-puff-pass.

From gatherings among friends to large-scale festivals, 420 offers a plethora of options for celebration. Whether engaging in smoke sessions, attending  reggae concerts, or participating in joint-rolling workshops, there’s no shortage of ways to celebrate the occasion.

Events similar to 420

While 420 stands out as the most prominent cannabis-related date, it’s not the sole occasion of significance for cannabis lovers. Another notable example is “710,” celebrated on July 10th, often referred to as “Oil Day.” The term “710” is derived from flipping the number upside down, resembling the word “OIL.” On this day, ents focus on cannabis concentrates and extracts.

Additionally, December 5th marks “Jack Herer Day,” honoring the late cannabis activist and author Jack Herer. Recognized for his advocacy of cannabis legalization and the benefits of hemp, Herer’s legacy is celebrated annually by ents worldwide.
